'One, two, three! One, two, three!'
A small boy, about 7 or 8 years old, was on his way to the nearby dojo. There were only a couple of isolated stone slabs which led to the building instead of a proper footpath. But this didn't disturb little Haru at all, he loved those coarse little islands which he could use as little interstations on his way to Kazuma-sama and his new training partner, Kyo. With a cheerful heart - for it was a lovely day - he jumped from one slab to another and droned a little melody to himself. Having arrived at the entrance of the dojo, Haru took off his shoes and slipped into one of those comfortable slippers which stood - all lined up - in front of the door. The black and white haired boy knocked a couple of times at the door and shouted:
"Oy, Kazuma-sama! Kyo! It's me, Hatsuharu!"
Then he waited for the door to open and wondered about the skills of his new partner, Kyo. He couldn't wait to find out which one of them was better - his one year older cousin or the little ushi himself? Beaming with anticipation, he swung his fists around in the air and kicked at an invisible opponent. "Kyahhhh-! Kyaaaaaahhhh - uh?" His stretched leg was halfway up in the air when the door swung open and caused him to topple down the stairs.

((Haha, nine years old... yay! Irrational anger! ^_^ *grin*))
Kyou sat in his room, puzzled. He stared at the homework. It stared back at him. Several seconds passed. Stray leaves blew in the courtyard. Bird chirped cheerfully in the distance. Kyou looked at the math. The math looked at Kyou. Several more seconds passed. "Aaarg!! What the heck!?" he swept his arm across the table in disgust, causing the homework to sullenly flutter about the room and the pencil to clatter on the floor. He sat clenching his teeth and glaring at the blank table. The paper landed noiselessly on the ground. Kyou glanced at it, knowing that he'd have to get up and get them again, having only wasted time. And energy. He scowled and looked away, thinking, I don't wanna get it... But he could feel the presence of the paper pounding into the back of his head. He whipped around, standing, and snatched the paper up. It trembled in his tight grip, crinkling slightly under his fingers. As he set it back on the table, after getting his pencil, he concentrated on the question again. If a grocery market has 12 lychees-- "...ma...Kyo!...s'me...suha...u...." At the sound of his name, he looked up. It didn't sound like Kazuma... Who...? He stood, his bad mood already slightly dissipated. He padded over to the door and slid it open, but a wooden panel hit-?! Kyou exclaimed, not expecting interference. But then he saw a little black and white mass topple the stairs. "Aah!" Did he do that?! Kyou froze, before frantically dashing after the snowball-boy. "Aah!! Are you- Are you okay?! Ah, aa-- You?! Okay?! A-are you o-oo...!?" he stuttered panicked. He arrived at the bottom of the stairs expecting the worst. He darted over to the boy and reached to him, but hesitated. It was a natural instinct built into the juunishi from years of experience transforming. Should I...? What should I?! He took a deep breath to collect his mind. It didn't work well. Shishou! I should get- but he's out getting groceries- I should call police- but if he transforms-but if he was REALLY hurt he would already have trans- but-but-but---
Kyou knelt beside Haru. Hands hovering over the boy's back. Brain in lock-down. Mind: miles away.
His homework was going to be lonely.

[Sry if there are grammar mistakes in my post >_<]
Ouch. This was pretty nearly everything Hatsuharu thought when his turbulent flight ended. Still startled by his new experience (he had often hurt himself, but this was the first time he toppled backwards), he remained lying on the ground until his ears perceived a boy's voice. The pain in his limbs distracted him immensely, so that Haru wasn't able to understand what the boy was saying. But wait - could it be Kyo? Haru screwed up his eyes and scrutinized the boy - who was now kneeling beside him - hoping to find a proof for the boy's identity. Seconds later, his greyish eyes lightened up and like a scalded cat, he propped up on his elbows. 'It must be Kyo, no doubt - who else would have orange hairs?'
"You must be Kyo!!!" Haru ejaculated with an enthusistic face. His palms were scraped, but he ignored the pain because he had just met his new training partner! A training partner! Someone to match with! A training partner! "What do you think about a match?" Haru challenged his new partner and winced at the same time when he accidentally touched his hand.

The swirling vortex of his mind spiraled darkly into the sinking depths of helplessness. In other words, he was very confused. As the body of his cousin lay beside him, it seemed his brain was irretrievable. Until suddenly, like a light-bulb, the cousin brightened up and exclaimed as if nothing at all had happened. And Kyou belatedly snapped back to reality, obedient to the call of his name. Relief swept over the boy, but all that stressed energy had to go somewhere. It couldn't just disappear... "A match?! Don't be stupid! You can't possibly fight me after falling down the stairs like that!" he shouted angrily as he stood up. "Don't scare me like that! Why the heck did you just lay there like that?! You trying to make me look weak or something?" Kyou had turned away from Haru, a blush mantled across his cheeks. How embarrassing, to be worried so much when nothing was wrong at all. "Well get up already. I have to treat your wounds before they get infected." He turned around and snapped at the boy, "And I won't take a 'no' either! So don't even think about it!" Shishou would be disappointed if I didn't help... He stomped back to the entrance, but stopped and glanced back to see if Haru was coming. Kyou's nervous energy was starting to calm, as he attempted to gather his nerves. Although he had called Haru stupid, he was actually inwardly chastising himself, "How could I be so stupid, getting so worried? What if he was really hurt? I just froze! Why couldn't I do anything?" And so on. He blushed again, frustrated with himself and the whole circumstance.

The enthusiasm on Haru's face receded as fast as the the pain in his body increased after hearing Kyo's words. True, right now it was impossible for him to even clench his fists without having to give a wince of pain - but wait, wasn't this a perfect situation to test his perseverance? Kazuma-sama would surely be impressed and besides, the heros in animes never gave up even when they were badly wounded. Still, he didn't want to contradict his older cousin, since it was their first meeting. Besides, Kyo lived with Kazuma-sama, and was the host, whereas Haru was just the guest.
"Don't scare me like that! Why the heck did you just lay there like that?! You trying to make me look weak or something? Well get up already. I have to treat your wounds before they get infected. And I won't take a 'no' either! So don't even think about it!"
Kyo wasn't quite as friendly as he had imagined, the Kyo he had imagined didn't snap at you while you were hurt. But he offered to take care of Haru's wound, so the ox assumed that Kyo must be a nice cousin after all. He watched how the orange-haired kid stomped back to the house and wondered why his cousin flushed from time to time. 'Is he angry'
"Arigatou, Kyo" he stammered, glancing down at his dirty knees and asked: "But, why is your face so red?"

As he saw the boy sit up, Kyou turned away, assuming that Haru was now following. But then... "Arigatou Kyou... but why is your face so red?" Kyou now flushed violently and stammered, "Sh-shut up! My face is NOT red!" And since it so obviously was, he quickly tromped up the stairs before Haru could retaliate. He left the sliding door ajar and stepped inside. Dang it... He thought with as much passion as his future self would have when shouting the more profane "Dammit". But because he had so gracelessly stomped up here he had to find a reason. Might as well... so he hunkered over to the bathroom. Opening the mirror cabinet, he slid out the first-aid kit.
Moments later he stood uncertainly at the doorway. Was Haru coming up? Should he go down? Had Haru left? Was he already in the house looking for Kyou?? Kyou looked about, worried. "Haru?" He called out in no particular tone. His head swung left and right for a quick inspection of the room before he scampered down the stairs, kit in hand.
(( I know its small, gomen!!! >_<))

((wait until you see my tiny post ^^ ) "Sh-shut up! My face is NOT red!" The little boy blinked. And once again. Were his eyes deceiving him? Haru could clearly see that Kyo's face had become even redder than before, but since the orange haired boy denied it, he presumed that his eyes were in need of glasses. 'But I will look like an idiot with glasses!' Haru thought, worrying. Almost hectically, he rubbed his eyes but when he opened them after a few seconds, Kyo was already gone. His cousin had already entered the house. Was he allowed to follow Kyo into the house? It wasn't his home after all. Haru remained at the doorway for a few minutes and waited for Kyo's instructions. But instead of hearing Kyo's voice, he heard someone rifle through a chest or something similar. "Kyo...?" Haru asked, a bit sheepishly when his eyes finally perceived the steps of his cousin - and the first-aid kid in his hand. Instinctively, the boy backed away a bit and shook his head. He didn't like first-aid kits. He still remembered his bicycle accident a few months ago when he had incured a gaping wound on his knee. The grandma who was living nearby the place of accident, had treated him with the help of her first-aid kit. He never forgot the pain which the desinfectant caused - as if his knee was burning. "Ano...Kyo...I don't think that I need that...I'm not really injured..."

"Shut up! I already told you that I wouldn't take a no!" And although the words were harsh, the tone was much less so, as this was delivered in a quieter tone with his eyes averted. Kyou didn't want to be reminded of why Haru was down here. Kyou had knocked him down the stairs. And before the clamourings of "its all my fault its all my fault" could start in the back of his head, he wanted to get this out of the way and done with. He snapped his gaze to the cow and muttered with a voice that invited no debate to the question, "Where does it hurt?" As calmly as he had delivered this, he walked over to Haru, slightly hefting the kit.
A shift in temperature brought a chill up Kyou's spine. It was getting cold. Was it going to rain? He looked up at the clouds. They hovered, dark and dreary, meeting for the cheerful sun and threatening to snuff out its cheerful shine. "Dang it!" He ALMOST cursed. "Haru can you get up? We should go inside so that I can fix you up there." Rain, rain, go away, never come back. Kyou hates you, as you seem to have a vengence for him. We all know the affect rain has on our poor kitty here. Kyou scowled in anticipation. Then, he stopped looking at the sky and back down at his cousin, thrusting his open hand at the boy. "Well come on! Before we get wet!" He glanced nervously at the approaching clouds.

Hatsuharu kept quiet after his cousin had scolded him. 'I deserve his scoldings...I am such a coward, why am I afraid of a bit pain? Kazuma-san would be disappointed...didn't I want to become a brave man?' He thought of Rin, whom he admired for her strength. Rin was a brave man, she had endured all the coldness of her parents. A real anime hero! As a child, he didn't know that his feelings towards Rin would someday change into love yet. Haru's childish brain still wasn't able to understand such complex feelings. All he cared about at the moment was becoming a courageous little boy.
"Where does it hurt?"
Still a bit reluctant, he held out his hand and showed Kyo his injured palm. "Well, it's mostly my left hand..." he muttered when he noticed some tiny drops of a red liquid in the middle of his palm. At the same time, rain drops started to fall down from the sky. "Dang it!" Haru frowned and remembered that this expression was one of those he was never supposed to speak out. But the adults obviously never told Kyo that. And why should it be forbidden, anyway? He didn't even know what "dang it" meant. Curiously, he plucked at his cousin's sleeve and asked innocently: "Kyo, what does 'dang it' mean?"

Kyou's hand hovered in front of his cousin's face. His cousin stared at it blankly and didn't take it, but instead pulled at his sleeve, asking, "Kyo, what does 'dang it' mean?" Kyou blinked, confused, before his scowl deepened. "It means hurry up and come inside!" He blurted. A drop of rain slid down his nose and he jumped. "Gah! Come on!" He seized Haru's hand and pulled him up. Then, he attempted to take him to the house by dragging him with him as he walked determinedly toward the stairs. Kyou was getting wetter and wetter by the second as the rain began to come harder. His head drooped a little and he scowled wearily at the clouds. Already, he was feeling worn. He held the kit above his head in a failing attempt to keep the rain from his face. "Gaaah... I hate the rain..." he muttered under his breath, feeling his cold, wet shirt stick to his shivering back.
When he stepped under the awning, he grabbed the banister and made his way up the stairs to the door, which was still open. He shuffled inside, not bothering to talk to Haru, and went to look for some towels.
