How should this character be portrayed? What is he like?: Souma Kyou, the scapegoat, is a young boy trying to grab hold of some love and compassion. Always blamed by everyone, for almost everything, his calm temper, and shyness, was slowly disappearing. He wanted, needed, people to know that it wasn't his fault! He was an innocent child that just needed some understanding and love! But that thought kept diminishing as time went on, and he forgot what he had wanted all along. Souma Kyou just got more and more confused, more and more short-tempered, and more and more isolated. He isolated himself... from other people. He didn't want judgement from people, because from his experience, it usually ended up bad. Its better to be safe than expose yourself to the judgement of others. But, he denied that part of himself, didn't want to admit his fear. As his temper rose, and his shyness disappeared, he became upset at every little thing.
Then, Kyou met his Shishou. He had someone who cared. A father. He held it very dear. But, people insulted Kazuma... and Kyou didn't want others to face the same ridicule he had, especially someone he held as close as a father. So, he ended up not being with Kazuma as much, he didn't confide as much, and the situation with the increasing anger and withheld depression was coming back again...
He blamed the nezumi, Yuki, for everything. It was easy to take the blame off himself and have a motive for his anger. He selected Yuki as his enemy, because in the legend, the rat had betrayed the cat, excluding him as a part of the zodiac! He was the reason that everything in Kyou's life had turned so sour! Or so Kyou had come to conclude. For reasons of her own, Kagura became Kyou's friend. He was happy and grateful... until she pulled off his bracelet. They were separated for a while, he didn't want to see her, he avoided her; she forced herself upon him. She was annoying, a nuisance.
His true form certainly enforced his fear and quick temper. It, and the bracelet, were an added weight and stress on his mind. That’s Kyou!
One thing you like about this character: He truly is a wonderful human being... and has handled everything in his life surprisingly well. In his position, I don't know if I'd be able to hold up at all... with a father who hates me, a mother who committed suicide because of me, and being scapegoated by most of my family? No, I probably wouldn't have held up. I admire him, his endurance, and his wonderful personality.
At least ten lines of sample RP: ((He's nine years old... so his anger problems are starting to build again...))
Souma Kyou looked down, swayed, and hung onto the branch tighter. He was really high up! He tried inching down a little... his foot slipped, and he scrambled back up. It was no use, he was stuck. The neko was stuck up in a tree. He gulped, holding back scared and frustrated tears. 'I... I can make it down...' he told himself. "I can't die yet... I haven't killed that stupid rat!" He clenched his teeth and scooted lower.
The teacher was watching kids climbing happily among the play equipment, when a small group of children ran up to her shouting about Kyou being caught up in a tree. She hustled over. "Stay right there!" She called up, "I'll get you some help!" She ran to the classrooms.
"No!" He yelled defiantly, "I don't need help! I don't need anybody's help!" He slid his legs over, digging his fingers into the bark. He hung there, finding no footholds. Letting go with one hand, he tried to grab a lower area and climb down... and he slipped. He fell to the ground, with his eyes clenched and arms out. He landed with a thud, and realized, that although it hurt, he hadn't broken or sprained any bones. The kids around him laughed, teasing, "I knew that scaredy cat couldn't make it up the tree!" "What a chicken!"
He sat up angrily, "No! I just fell! I'm not a chicken!"
"Oh? Then why don't you go try again? Or are ya too scared?"
He looked at the tree. It loomed over him ominously. "I'm not scared! You're the scared ones!" He hefted his fists and stood. "I'm gonna punch your faces in!" He ran to them and they scattered, but from the corner of his eye, he saw someone running to him! "You wanna face m- Sensei!"
Indeed. It was the sensei. Like the tree, she loomed over him ominously, "What were you told about picking fights at school? You're coming to the office with me." She spun around and stomped him off to the principal.
Kyou frowned, knowing he was facing another lecture from his teachers. But what he dreaded most was coming home... to see Shishou's disappointed face. Shishou would tell him that it was okay and that he just needed to work on self-control, but... his expression... Kyou knew he was disappointed. Kyou wanted to tell him, though! To tell him that he was trying his hardest to get stronger! He wanted to be stronger so that he could beat the nezumi! Then, he might be welcome in the family, and no one could treat his shishou badly or with disrespect ever again! That’s what he wanted to tell him. But... he wouldn't. That would be too embarrassing. That kind of logic seemed too... wimpy. Besides, he was doing it for himself too! He could be accepted... he would be hated... or teased. And that d**n rat would get exactly what he deserved.
As Kyou walked into the office, he prepared himself for the lecture he had heard many times before...
